Oh my heart! I can’t thank you enough for sharing my memoir here…and pointing me toward Truth Like Water. What a beautiful pairing! I’m going to add it to my queue today.

And your reflections on Unfixed…I want to memorize your words, to carry them around with me. I’d never articulated it this way — “weaving the story together are three bodies” — but now I can feel how perfectly it names the memoir’s shape. These three bodies pulling toward one another, dissolving into one another, each giving contour and current to the whole.

And! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we’re never invisible and we’re also never alone. (Two sides of the same coin?) Earth is teeming with life, and our bodies are teeming with life (like we’re each little planets for all the millions of microbes on and within). I sometimes like to tune into all those rallying critters, working harmoniously together to sustain my life. What an honor!

I once did a bird language course and we learnt about the concentric rings of alarm calls and we learned about sitting still and feeling how the birdsong changed - it is hearing but it is also feeling as the birds drop down closer in the trees. Just magical!! In other news have you read the mountain under the sea? I just read it it’s sci-fi but the premise is what if octopus developed language and culture and how would we learn to communicate - what is mind? I think you would enjoy it!! ❤️
